Brand Yourself or Brand a Company?

I read a recent article that discusses the pros and cons of a freelancer branding themselves or under a company name. ( see Article)

The answer at Career Ladders is both. 

Branding a company allows you to create a highly specialized web presence by topic.  A company also allows you to hire other people.   

Branding yourself establishes you as an expert in the field.  You can contribute to conversations more easily.  On facebook you can have multiple handles, one for friends and family, one for your professional personal name, and a fanpage for the business.  In addition, everyone can brand themselves on the web whether they consider themselves a freelancer or not.

All of these can cross link to each other particularly the web pages so if you promote one page it can promote another.

In recap, a person needs to brand their personal/professional self and their business niche.
